Pathways to Write is an award-winning programme built around units of work that follow a mastery approach to the teaching of writing. The books at the core of the units have been carefully selected to engage and inspire, and to provide plentiful opportunities for following the interests of pupils. The EYFS skills for the Pathways units are based on Development Matters Communication and Language, and Reading; the Mastery Keys are based on Development Matters Writing. Although progression is clearly planned across the six half-termly units, they do not need to be followed chronologically. This flexible programme allows for adaptations in early years to support non-linear learning. Coverage of all statements linked to Communication and Language and Literacy are planned across the programme. Each unit covers a range of areas in the statutory framework for the early years foundation stage:. Mastery of communication and language, reading and writing skills. Numerous opportunities for meaningful talk, listening and collaboration and for vocabulary and language development. Additional cross curricular ideas for Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive and Artistic Design. Many ideas for how the pupils might like to follow their own interests sprinkled throughout. Plan, Do, Review model is also followed to encourage pupil-initiated learning and to respond to the interests of the pupil. Planning is written as mixed-age with separate objectives and activities for '3- and 4- year-olds' and 'children in reception'. Each unit considers the characteristics of effective learning and these are highlighted throughout in order to support practitioners. Package includes:.
